Sustainability progressing through concrete actions

In 2025, KWH Group strengthened its sustainability work. During the year, concrete progress was made across the business divisions, particularly in energy efficiency, resource-efficient solutions, and the development of occupational health and safety.

Solutions related to the circular economy and the development of more sustainable products also advanced in several companies. At the same time, investments were made in employee competence and ethical business practices.

– A clearly structured approach to sustainability supports our business and helps us create long-term value, says CEO Kjell Antus.

– In times of global uncertainty, sustainability work provides us with a stable foundation and an opportunity to strengthen our position and resilience. In the coming years, we will continue to focus on our priority areas – the environment, resource efficiency and our workforce, he continues.

Mirka commissioned a solar and geothermal energy park in Oravais. The company develops dust-free sanding solutions and expanded its product range by adding extraction systems to dust-generating products. The CIGMA factory, which produces recycled abrasive grains, is progressing according to plan and will enter the testing phase in summer 2026. The plant uses waste materials from both Mirka’s own operations and those of its customers. In occupational safety, Mirka achieved a historically low injury rate, and supplier-related work has been developed through audits and assessments. Mirka also achieved a Bronze level in EcoVadis.

KWH Logistics focuses on electrifying its vehicle fleet and increasing the use of biofuels. To support customers’ emissions reporting, emissions data are now provided directly with invoices. The fleet is gradually being renewed to become more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Occupational safety has improved year by year, and in 2025 the company received a Level 2 recognition in the Finnish Zero Accident Forum (Nollis initiative). In the supply chain, monitoring focuses particularly on key suppliers, and personnel training includes topics such as anti-corruption.

KWH Freeze is developing solutions to utilise waste heat from cooling processes. From spring 2026 onwards, the waste heat will be used in the local district heating network. Employee wellbeing is supported through systematic preventive practices, and positive development is reflected in employee surveys. The company is currently updating its sustainability strategy, which is planned to be implemented during the coming year.

Prevex has continued developing its products with a focus on sustainability. Customers can now be offered plastic-free packaging options. Work to improve lead-free products is nearly complete: 99% of products can be offered without lead. Occupational safety development also continues as part of the Zero Accident Forum initiative.

KWH Group published its fourth sustainability report in May. The report is available on our sustainability pages and was prepared by Ethos, a Sweden-based consultancy specialising in sustainability.
