INDUSTRIAL SERVICESAdolf Lahti Yxpila – Kokkola, Pietarsaari, Kotka and VarkausAdolf Lahti is a growing and versatile com- pany in the machine and industrial service sector, with an extensive  eet of machines. The company offers up-to-date exper- tise and equipment for bulk handling, heavy transport, mill and workshop services, and maintenance.The company is active in major industrial ar- eas and in the ports of Kokkola and Pietar- saari, as well as in the forestry industry in Pietarsaari, Varkaus and Kotka. During 2017, operations are being extended to Äänekoski and Helsinki. The company continued to de- velop positively during the year. Sales rose by 32% to EUR 9.1 (6.9) million.Pro tability was satisfactory, and the oper- ational objectives were achieved thanks to increased collaboration with customers, as well as with sister companies and major local industries in Kokkola, Pietarsaari and Kotka. The collaboration with the forestry indus- try in connection with planning and the han- dling of timber raw material  ows succeeded particularly well.During the current year, business is expected to increase further thanks to the new oper- ations in Äänekoski and Vuosaari Harbour in Helsinki. A new and modern workshop for servicing and repairing heavy machinery is being set up at Pietarsaari. This will com- plement the successful workshop in Kokkola. The company’s ef cient solutions are in high demand in the industry. The aim is to expand the company’s diversi ed service into new markets.Quality and environmentKWH Logistics’ quality system is basedon ISO 9001:2008, and its environmental system on ISO 14001:2004. These certi ed systems are used in all the KWH Logistics companies. Moreover, Backman-Trummer and Blomberg Stevedoring have been granted AEO status (Authorised Economic Operator) by the Finnish Customs Service.Maintaining a high level of quality remains essential, as this has a major in uenceon the ability to optimise overall costs in customers’ supply chains.Staff Development and WelfareThe division had, on average, a staff of 411 (417) employees. Cold Storage had a staffof 78 (76), Port & Sea 246 (256), Industrial Service 42 (34) and Freight Forwarding and Backman-Trummer´s administration had 45 (48) employees.InvestmentInvestment by KWH Logistics increasedto EUR 10.1 (7.6) million. The largest investments were in Backman-Trummer’s shortsea terminal at Vaasa (Vaskiluoto) and the expansion of KWH Freeze’s cold store in Vantaa.The outlook for 2017The outlook is positive,and the quantities of goodsare expected to increase markedly.29v
